Developed under the Horizon Europe programme, EMERALDS is a pioneering platform that leverages advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence to support smarter, more sustainable mobility strategies in urban environments.
Revolutionising Urban Mobility and Transport Planning
The EMERALDS Toolset introduces a transformative approach to urban mobility planning. By analysing large amounts of spatio-temporal data in real-time, the platform enables city planners to make informed decisions that directly address urban congestion, environmental concerns, and infrastructure efficiency.
What are the key features of the EMERALDS Toolset?
- Advanced Data Analytics: Processes large-scale, high-variety mobility data to uncover meaningful insights into movement patterns across cities.
- Real-Time AI and ML Integration: Utilises cutting-edge artificial intelligence and machine learning for adaptive, responsive analysis.
- Interactive Dashboards: Provide intuitive visualisations for stakeholders to interpret and act on complex data.
- Privacy-by-Design Architecture: Ensures all data is handled with robust privacy protections across the platform.
Sustainability Alignment: Supports UN Sustainable Development Goal 11 https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/cities/ making cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.
Ref Grant Agreement
“EMERALDS addresses EU policy priorities to tackle environmental challenges such as: (a) Green Deal, through better information for decision making in the mobility/transport sector; offering a supporting automated strategic to critical decision making (e.g., for city traffic planning). (b) Sustainable Development Goals 46. In specific, Goal 3 “Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages”, is enhanced towards a sustainable city mobility management. In addition, EMERALDS aims at generating higher levels of economic productivity through technological upgrading and innovation, that is aligned with Goal 8 “Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all” and will make cities safe, resilient, and sustainable (Goal 11). (c) EMERALDS ensures robust and compliant policies for the handling of mobility data, in compliance with the EU Data Protection Directive (GDPR) and the national legislation, since it will support decision making, by enabling privacy preservation."
Recognised by the EU Innovation Radar
The Innovation Radar - a European Commission initiative identified EMERALDS as a high-potential innovator emerging from EU-funded research for its:
- Market Maturity (Exploring): Actively exploring value creation opportunities.
- Market Creation Potential: Recognised as addressing the needs of established markets and customers.
- Go-To-Market Needs: Identified areas to strengthen its commercial viability including:
- Preparing for market entry
- Securing investment capital
- Scaling up market opportunities
This recognition places EMERALDS among a selected group of promising EU-funded innovations with strong commercial and societal impact potential.
Pilot Testing and Early Adoption
The EMERALDS suite of services is currently being validated through three pilot use cases at Technology Readiness Level 5 (TRL5), in collaboration with city authorities and mobility stakeholders.
In addition, two early adopter demonstrators at TRL6 are already integrating EMERALDS services into existing commercial platforms, demonstrating real-world impact and market readiness.
“Being featured on the Innovation Radar platform is a significant milestone for EMERALDS. It validates our team's efforts in driving forward-edge mobility solutions and positions us at the heart of the EU’s innovation ecosystem. This visibility will help accelerate collaboration, adoption, and impact—amplifying our mission to build smarter urban mobility across Europe” Ntafloukas Konstantinos, Project Coordinator, Inlecom Innovation.
